Tan Cheng Bock is a prominent 83-year-old Singapore politician. In 2011, he left the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) and ran for President of Singapore, narrowly losing by a 0.35% margin. In 2018, he formed his own political party, Progress Singapore Party (PSP), which is largely centred around him. Leading a team of 4 other PSP members to contest the West Coast group constituency in the 2020 general election, he narrowly lost by a margin of 3.36%. As the best-performing losers in that election, PSP was allowed to nominate two members of this team as Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMP). The PSP nominated Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa to be NCMPs.
